Polyvinyl Chloride, commonly abbreviated as PVC, is the third-most widely produced plastic, after polyethylene and polypropylene. PVC is used in construction because it is more effective than traditional materials. It can be made softer and more flexible by the addition of plasticisers.
Thermoplastic materials are distinguished from thermosets in which there is no chemical cross-linking. Because of the material’s chemical nature, some thermoplastic membrane may be seamed by either hot air or solvent welding.
PVC system came to prominence in Europe and America before its popularity grew in this market. In the Gulf region, it’s adoption increased in the mid-2000 and after. Al Shirawi Contracting is one of the first few companies to adopt this new system and is associated with BASF, FOSROC & MAPEI.
